There's was a jam on for this right now, Islands! Islands!! Islands!!! Check it out.

ISLANDS OF WEIRDHOPE, an ECO MOFOS!!game, is the next game in my ongoing collaboration with illustrator Daniel Locke, my partner at Copy/Paste Co-op.

If you want to have access to the project as it develops, simply purchase it now at reduced price, and you will have access to all pdfs of the game, even the finished version!

Players set sail as Windwaker meets Waterworld in this rules-light procedure-heavy TTRPG for solo and group play. Explore a near-future hazardous but hopeful world, smashing Corpo Schemes while discovering Monsters and Mecha lurking beneath the waves, guzzling ambergris to learn new spells. Explore an optimistic new world, weirdhope not grimdark.

"ECO Mofos is a fantastic design. The masterful writing, psychedelic art, and embarrassment of content make for a game that feels like it explodes out of the book, drenching your game table in beautiful filth." Chris McDowall, Creator of Mythic Bastionland and Into the Odd.

Islands of Weirdhope is a psychedelic self-contained new game with minimalist rules for group or Solo play that compliments the Award-winning ECO MOFOS!! rulebook, exploring the wonders and weirdness of the future seas. The game imagines a possible future brimming with hope but fundamentally weird. Built from procedural content generation, the GM can enjoy the surprise as much as the player Punks.

Uncover an uncanny and colourful world: a post-post-apocalyptic landscape, where coral covers submerged silos and tech is rediscovered and repurposed for this new world. Sailing across a vast archipelago of sunken cities and volcanic islands, punks will brave the Abyssal seas, confront mutated manta ray and renegade replicants, and delve into the depths of billionaire’s bunkers to salvage USBs of information about the world before.

I've been sharing thoughts on the development of this new game here so feel free to have a read to find out more.

Islands of Weirdhope is a beautifully produced hardback book, self-contained companion to ECO MOFOS!!, the Award-winning science-fantasy adventure game.

The book is an A5-sized hardback, 140 pages long, full-colour throughout, featuring Daniel Locke’s vibrant illustrations. It is the next chapter of David Blandy and Daniel Locke’s collaboration to find new ways to tell memorable stories, a self-contained game that also acts as a supercharged add-on to the core ECO MOFOS!! book.

Just a note that I’m having a blast! The game has a solid turn structure, which I very much appreciate as a solo player. Only thing I’m messing with a bit is creating some rules on eating and sleeping without adding much complexity.

Love the vibe of the game and how easy it is to pick up and play. It is so simple to create seas, islands, ports, caves and buildings. The nodes maps work so well to keep focus on what matters.
On days where I do not have enough head space to play, I colour the maps.

I’m not able to go on any overnight trips this summer, and I won’t say this game is a substitute, but the vibe and adventures created by the combination of oversea and land travel absolutely add to my feeling of summer.

Good luck finishing up David and Dan!

thanks so much for the feedback! That gives real fuel on this final stretch. I’m curious about the eating and sleeping rules- would you be willing to share what you came up with? Thanks again.

Sure! I’m still adjusting and shaving, but this is where I’m at right now. Thoughts are welcome!
I’m interested to hear how you go about eating and sleeping.

Provisions
One character carries the bag of provisions (= water and food), d6 usage. The bag takes up 1 slot.

A provisions check is made during camping: the character carrying the bag of provisions rolls a d6.

On a 2-6 the party gets to eat and drink. On a 1 the provisions are spoiled. The bag is emptied and the characters are Deprived.
The bag can be refilled by foraging and fishing (and story elements).

Foraging
Spend a watch to forage. One character rolls against LCK.*
All characters can spend LCK points to add -1 to the roll per point.
On success the bag of provisions is refilled.

Fishing: coastal areas and areas with water
Spend a watch fishing. One character rolls against DEX.*
If characters have any items useful for fishing, add -1 to the roll per item.
On success the bag of provisions is refilled.

* Situational modifiers could be applied to the roll (island type, environment, weather etc). So picking a good spot should improve chance of success.

Camping
Camping takes 2 watches per day and allows for eating, drinking, conversation and sleep:
- Make provisions check
- Share a thought or memory, discuss ideas
- Restore all HP (if not deprived)

Option: add a check to see if anything happens during sleep.

At sea
Make a provisions check once per leg. Characters manage to take naps across the day.

Fishing is possible between legs. In that case remove one knot die when rolling knots for next leg.

Thanks for sharing! It really got me thinking, and I tried to incorporate your ideas while aligning them to the rest of the rules. This is what I came up with-

**Downtime**

Every Punk needs a little downtime each day, taking time to eat, drink, sleep and hang out.

- To eat and drink you need a Ration.

- To sleep you need 2 Watches in a single place. Travelling in a craft counts as a single place, as you take turns to nap and drift on the current.

- To hang out your Punk has to reflect on their situation, sharing a story or thought with a comrade or a journal. This can be a moment to relieve certain Burdens.

If any of these are impossible, due to a lack of Rations or time, or neglected, your Punk becomes Deprived.

**Rations**

Rations use a d6 Usage Die, and take up one slot of Inventory.

**Refreshing Rations**

It’s possible to find or refresh Rations through foraging, fishing or finding fresh water. All take one Watch in a suitable environment and a successful LCK or DEX Save. You can make a second Save if conditions are favourable, such as when in shallow seas or on a natural island. Fishing is possible at sea between legs, but removes one knot die for the next leg.

I’d love to hear what you think.

This sounds great!

I have gone back and forth on whether there should be a chance of the party becoming Deprived due to unexpected spoilage (does it create tension, or rather feels punishing?).  Your solution feels fitting to both the rules and spirit of the game.

The way you describe refreshing Rations solves the struggle I had making these activities streamlined ánd doable. This irons out the wrinkles I had in my head.
Another thing I really like is including the possibility of relieving certain Burdens during hanging out. Great idea.

Thank you for taking an interest!

thanks again! I’d love to credit you in the book- what name should I put in there?

Hi David, I was wondering whether this will get updated with the latest pre release pdf? I imagine a lot has happened since the end of November! :)
